KW Specialty’s Parent, Kramer-Wilson Celebrates its 50th Anniversary Today

KW Specialty Insurance Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kramer-Wilson Company, Inc. Kramer-Wilson was formed by its founders Lawrence Kramer and Weldon Wilson in 1969 (pictured) to operate as a managing general agency in California. In 1972 Kramer-Wilson formed Century-National Insurance Company, a California domiciled property and casualty company specializing in auto physical damage policies sold through automobile dealerships. Kramer-Wilson acquired Western General Agency in 1986, an agency specializing in homeowners insurance that sourced business through banks and mortgage lenders. This was Century-National’s entry into the homeowners segment which became its dominant line of business. Other lines written by Century-National included dwelling fire, earthquake, renters, mobile home, commercial auto, and personal auto. On June 1, 2016, Kramer-Wilson sold its insurance assets including Century-National to National General, but retained KW Specialty Insurance Company.

KW Specialty was originally incorporated in Turks and Caicos in June, 1983 as KW Reinsurance Company, Ltd., a Turks and Caicos domiciled insurance corporation. On November 1, 2017 the company was domesticated from Turks and Caicos to the State of Delaware and the name was changed to KW Specialty Insurance Company. Also effective November 1, 2017 KW Specialty was granted a Certificate of Authority as a Domestic Surplus Line Insurer domiciled in Delaware.

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the doors opening for Kramer-Wilson on April 15, 1969, all of us at KW Specialty Insurance Company thank Lawrence Kramer and Weldon Wilson for their vision and now the entire Wilson family for their sound business judgement and support they have continued to provide. All of us at KW Specialty Insurance Company hope to carry the family legacy of mutual success for the next 50 years and beyond.
